Pervez Khattak Likely to Become Secretary General of New Istihkam-e-Pakistan Party
Sources have revealed that prominent figure of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pervez Khattak, is expected to be appointed as the secretary general of the recently formed Istihkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), led by Jahangir Tareen. The sources have confirmed that Khattak has been in contact with Tareen for several days and will join the new party along with his colleagues.
This development comes less than two weeks after Khattak announced his resignation as the president of PTI's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter. However, he clarified that he is not leaving PTI, dismissing such reports as "propaganda".
Jahangir Tareen, once a close aide of PTI Chairman Imran Khan and instrumental in the party's rise to power in 2018, officially launched the IPP on Thursday, stating his intention to contribute to the country's progress through politics.
Khattak and Tareen are not the only former PTI members to join the new party. Several PTI defectors, who parted ways with Khan following the events of May 9, have joined forces with Tareen. The arrest of Imran Khan on May 9 led to widespread unrest, with attacks on important military installations, including the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi and the Lahore Corps Commander's residence.
Since then, there has been a significant exodus of PTI leaders, many of whom have announced their departure from the party and even claimed to retire from politics. Notable figures who have joined the IPP include Fawad Chaudhry, Ali Zaidi, Imran Ismail, Firdous Ashiq Awan, Aamer Mehmood Kiani, Sardar Tanveer Ilyas, Mahmood Baqi Maulvi, Fayaz ul Hassan Chohan, and Murad Raas. The formation of the IPP and the inclusion of these key political figures mark a significant development in the evolving political landscape of Pakistan.
