Sindh Declares Public Holiday on April 4th, 2023
The Sindh government has announced that April 4th will be a public holiday throughout the province in memory of former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto's 44th martyrdom anniversary. According to a notification issued on Thursday, all government offices, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations, and local councils under the administrative control of the Sindh government, except for essential services, will remain closed.
Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, born on January 5, 1928, was a prominent politician who founded the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) in 1967. Bhutto was hanged in a controversial trial on April 4, 1979, nearly two years after General Ziaul Haq imposed martial law and overthrew his government. The PPP has referred to his death as a "judicial murder." Currently, the PPP is being led by Bhutto's maternal grandson, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari.
